Ear Health
Ear Wax
Ears produce wax in order to protect the ear canals from foreign bodies, infectious organisms and water related issues. Some people produce excess wax which can cause issues. For people who wear hearing aids, ear phones, ear buds or other ear devices, this can also make the ear produce extra wax which creates additional issues. You can see below.

Outer Ear Infections
Outer ear infections are often caused by viral or bacterial issues within the outer ear canal. This is often made worse when excess ear wax builds up and becomes a home to the infection. By regularly cleaning your ears, the chance for these issues greatly decreases because moisture and humidity are no longer trapped there. Also, medicated ear drops have a greater chance to penetrate the ear and take effect.

Inner Ear Infections
These are caused by fluid building up in the inner or middle ear. Although we can't remove fluid or wax from this part of the ear, we can help remove wax from the outer ear which can create a better pathway to drain this fluid and also relieves pressure from the ear drum.

Hearing Aids & Compact Wax
The following items and activities contribute to wax building up in the ear canals and compacting it which makes it block up:
- Ear phones/ Ear buds / Air Pods / headsets
- Hearing Aids
- Cotton buds / Q-tips
- Swimming or water sports

What to do about it?
Hearing aid wearers should have their ears cleaned at least twice per year as hearing aids tend to compact wax which reduces hearing abilities and efficacy of the hearing aids.
Compact wax is often not able to be properly removed from the ear canal with water syringing as it needs to soften. If you have experienced this, it is beneficial to use drops which will soften wax before coming to visit our clinic. Please speak to us for guidance prior to your appointment.

Kids & Grommets
Children from the age of 5 and up are able to visit the clinic.
Micro-suction ear cleaning is able to not only remove wax but foreign objects also. If you are concerned that your child has put something in their ear, please first visit a doctor. We are able to remove foreign objects without a doctors appointment.

Grommets & Perforated Ear Drums
Water syringe ear cleaning is not recommended for people who have grommets or perforated ear drums but because micro-suction ear cleaning is dry and gentle, it's possible for us to clean out the ears safely and effectively.
Medical professionals can also refer clients to our practice.

Foreign Bodies
There can be a number of debris and things apart from wax that can get lodged in the ear canals.

For children this can be small toys or other peculiar things, but for adults this could be parts of hearing aids, animal fur, leaves, grass, lint, cotton buds, insects, moths... the list continues.
If you have something within the ear canal which shouldn't be there, we can safely and quickly remove it as part of our service without the necessity of a doctor.
